Prepping for the 2026-27 International Teacher Recruitment Fairs: A Timing and Tactics Guide

You have twelve days. Search Associates opens candidate invitation requests for its 2026-27 fair season on August 15-16, 2026 [1][2]. That's the trigger for a recruitment cycle that decides where you'll be teaching in August 2027. Miss the timing on this window and you're a step behind for the rest of the season. Here's what the calendar actually looks like, what each fair really is, and how to arrive with your references, résumés, and interview strategy in the right shape.

The 2026-27 fair calendar

Search Associates runs four fairs in the main hiring window this cycle, and ISS runs its iFair alongside them. If you're planning your season, this is the map:

FairDatesVenueScalePlacement rate
Search Singapore Teaching and LeadershipNovember 13-15, 2026Canadian International SchoolUp to 50 schools, ~200 candidatesNot published [3]
Search BangkokJanuary 8-10, 2027Marriott Marquis Queens Park~130 schools40-50% [4]
Search London-JanuaryJanuary 15-17, 2027Millennium Gloucester, Kensington140 schools, up to 450 candidatesNot published [1]
Search Cambridge USAJanuary 22-25, 2027Hyatt Regency Cambridge~200 recruiters, 300+ candidates~70% [5]
ISS iFairRolling (in-person and virtual)MultipleVariesNot published [6]

Two things to note. First, Singapore in November is deliberately smaller and higher-bar than the January fairs, and it's the earliest recruiters go looking. Second, Cambridge's ~70% offer rate is the highest of any Search fair on the calendar, but that's partly because Cambridge candidates are pre-screened harder before invitation, not because Cambridge schools are easier to impress.

Which agency, and can you afford both

Search Associates and ISS are the two mainstream routes. They aren't interchangeable.

Search Associates. The bigger of the two by school count and reach. Registration is not free in most regions: US $225 for a three-year term or until placement, whichever comes first, per the ANZ office; US $100 for new Canadian candidates; and free through the UK North and Ireland office [7][8]. That fee covers registration at one job fair and full database access; each additional fair is US $75 [7]. You aren't charged until Search formally accepts you as a member candidate, so you're not out any money for applying.

ISS. Runs the iFair platform in both in-person and virtual formats, with AI matchmaking that surfaces roles matching your subject, experience, and preferences [6]. Historically cheaper to get on than Search, though ISS's own current fee schedule is dashboard-visible only.

If your budget forces one, most first-timers get more traction from Search in Asia and Europe. ISS pulls more consistently in the US and Latin America. But for the January fair season proper, keeping profiles active on both is worth doing because a good school not attending your primary agency's fair may attend the other one, and you don't want to be locked out over a paperwork technicality.

The eligibility floor for each fair

Not every fair is for every candidate. Here's what recruiters actually screen against:

Singapore Teaching and Leadership (November) is strictly for experienced international teachers. You need at least two completed years teaching or leading in an international school outside your home country, and a Search profile that's fully activated with a minimum of four references, two of which must be current-school supervisor references [3]. If you're a first-time international hire, this isn't your fair.

Bangkok (January) wants internationally experienced teachers as well, though the bar is slightly softer than Singapore. Search says outright: "This fair is quite competitive. Recruiters know that they have other fairs to attend, so they may be selective" [4]. Ask your Senior Associate whether Bangkok fits, or whether a smaller fair matches you better.

London-January is where the calendar opens up for candidates without international experience yet, but only if you bring one of the in-demand specialisms: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, French with Spanish, Early Childhood, Music, Elementary PE, Elementary Art & Design, Special Education, Counsellors, instructional coaches, or Librarians [1]. Domestic-only teachers outside those specialisms may still request an invitation but should expect competition. 140 schools attend, 75% offer at least one IB programme, 40% offer British International curricula [1].

Cambridge USA is invitation-only and highly pre-screened. That's why the offer rate is high: by the time you're in the room, both sides have already passed a filter [5]. Best fit for teachers targeting the Americas or global elite schools.

The 90-day prep timeline

Working backwards from a January fair, this is what needs to happen in what order:

T-minus 3 to 4 months (August-September 2026):

  • Register with Search and/or ISS. For Search, request invitations from your home Senior Associate on or after August 15 (London) or August 16 (Singapore, Bangkok, Cambridge) [1][2][3][4].
  • Order your criminal-background check. In the US that's the FBI Identity History Summary; in the UK it's ACRO; in Canada it's the RCMP check. Turnaround alone is often 4-8 weeks, longer if you need it apostilled.
  • Start the apostille process on your degree. In the US that's the state that issued the diploma; in the UK it's the FCDO.

T-minus 2 months (November 2026):

  • All four to five references should be in and verified in your Search profile by the end of November. The London January fair is oversubscribed; Search recommends registration by November for this reason [1].
  • Update your Bio Notes section. Recruiters skim this first, before your CV.
  • Watch for the school list on your fair's dashboard. Bangkok posts the school list from September/October onward and updates it as schools confirm [4].

T-minus 1 month (December 2026):

  • Book your hotel. The Marriott Marquis Queens Park (Bangkok) can be fully booked by December; Search's cutoff for the discounted rate is December 18 [4]. Millennium Gloucester (London) fills fast too.
  • Print 25 double-sided A4 or Letter résumés. Yes, 25. Recruiters take notes on paper copies even though every fair now runs digitally [1][4].
  • Research each attending school on your fair's dashboard. Note who's hiring for your subject, who's on your must-interview list, and who you'd take a second interview with only if the first is warm.

T-minus 1 week:

  • Test your laptop and phone charging setup. Fair Portal (Search's app) runs on both, and connectivity in a packed hotel is patchy. Search London recommends a small mobile data allowance for peak times [1].
  • Confirm your Fair Portal login works. This is where interview times get pinned down.

The interview sign-up session is the fair

Here's what Search itself says about Bangkok's Day 1 sign-up: "The Sign-up session late in the afternoon of Friday January 8th is when the majority of interview times will be arranged. If you can't attend then, it will not be worth registering for the fair" [4]. That's the whole fair in one sentence. You either turn up at sign-up with a target list and a professional handshake ready, or you're playing catch-up all weekend.

At sign-up you queue at each school's table, introduce yourself in under 90 seconds, and either walk away with an interview slot or don't. Recruiters make snap calls. Which means you need three things ready:

1. A 45-second pitch per school. Not a generic "I'm passionate about IB" line. Something specific: "I've taught DP History for three years at [school], my extended essays run high 6s and 7s, I'm looking to move into an IB Coordinator role over the next contract." Different for each school on your list.

2. Your top 5 schools mapped, plus a second 5 as backups. Sign-up gets crowded fast. If your top choice's queue is 30 deep and your second choice is 5 deep, that's where you go first.

3. A résumé handout ready in your hand. Recruiters have your full Search file digitally, but the paper copy is where they scribble their yes/no note after you leave [1][4].

After the fair, contracts move fast

Offers land within days of the fair, sometimes hours. What often surprises first-timers: the exploding offer. A recruiter interviews you Saturday, offers Sunday morning, wants an answer by Sunday evening. That happens most at Bangkok and Cambridge, where the school-count-to-candidate-count ratio favours recruiters.

Two rules for that moment:

Negotiate before you sign, not after. Housing allowance, flights, professional development budget, and tuition remission for your kids are all on the table. Base salary is usually the least flexible line. Ask your Senior Associate what the school's typical package looks like before you counter, so you're not sandbagging or embarrassing yourself.

Don't sign to escape the pressure of another interview. Every year, teachers accept a first offer at the fair because the second-choice school hasn't come back yet, and then spend three years regretting it. If the school is worth working for, they'll wait 24 hours for your answer. If they won't, that's information about how they treat staff.

Key Takeaways

  • Search Associates 2026-27 candidate invitation requests open August 15 (London) and August 16 (Singapore, Bangkok, Cambridge) [1][2][3][4].
  • Registration fee: US $225 for a three-year term through Search's main and ANZ offices; US $100 for new Canadian candidates; free through the UK North and Ireland office [7][8].
  • The four Search fairs: Singapore (Nov 13-15, 2026), Bangkok (Jan 8-10, 2027), London (Jan 15-17, 2027), Cambridge USA (Jan 22-25, 2027) [1][3][4][5].
  • Cambridge posts the highest offer rate at around 70%; Bangkok is 40-50% [4][5]. Higher rates reflect pre-screening as much as school demand.
  • The Day 1 interview sign-up session is when the fair really happens. Miss it and Search itself says the fair isn't worth attending [4].

Conclusion

The fair season gets decided in August and September, long before anyone walks onto an interview floor: profile complete, references in, apostille on its way. Request your invitation this week, then book the criminal-background check the same day. Everything else runs on that timeline.
